Cookies

When we switch on Google Analytics, a banner asks first. Only if you press Accept does Google Analytics set _ga and _ga_<id> (up to 2 years) to count visits and see which pages help; until then, or if you press Reject, nothing is sent to Google Analytics. We send Google only that an enquiry was made and from which form, never your name, email, phone number or message. Google Ireland Ltd acts as our processor. Your choice is kept in your browser's local storage as site-consent for 6 months; change it with Cookie settings at the foot of every page, and rejecting deletes those cookies. The sign-in session cookie is strictly necessary and needs no consent.

Who runs this site

MyLocalBuilders is a trading name of Property Architecture Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 17536132, registered office 90 Hendon Lane, London N3 3SL. Property Architecture Ltd runs mylocalbuilders.uk and is the controller of the personal data described on this page. Email [email protected].

Who can leave a review

Anyone who has been a customer of the builder. A review is held, not published, until you have confirmed your email address and the builder has confirmed you were a customer. If the builder has not claimed its listing, or does not answer within 14 days, a moderator checks instead. The builder never sees what you wrote before it is published. We email you when your review is published, or the reason if we cannot publish it.

Changing or withdrawing your review

When your review is published we email you a link to change or withdraw it. A moderator checks a change before it replaces your review; we aim to do that within five working days. Until then the original stays, and a changed review is marked "Edited" with the date. A review can be changed up to three times. Withdrawing deletes the review and takes its rating off the profile at once. A builder is not told about a change and cannot see one before it is published.

What we remove

Reviews that are not from a client, that name individuals outside the firm, that contain threats, discrimination or personal data, or that are about a different business. We do not remove reviews for being negative, and we do not remove them at the firm's request.

What firms can do

Report a review they believe breaks this policy through our contact page, and a moderator will check it against this policy. If we remove it, the profile says so and why. A firm cannot edit or remove a review itself.

Incentives

A builder may ask customers to review them but may not pay, discount, or make anything depend on the content or rating. Reviews we find were rewarded or conditioned are removed, with the reason shown on the profile.

Fees

Verified and Featured listings are sold to businesses, not to consumers. Each is a single one-time payment for one listing: nothing renews and we never charge the card again. Fees are non-refundable once the payment has gone through. If you think a payment was taken in error, contact us first and we will look into it within five working days. A listing stays up while the company is active at Companies House; once the register sync finds it dissolved or closed, we take the listing down, and the fee is not refunded in that case either.

Privacy

When you send a request or an enquiry we store your name, email address, phone number if you give one, postcode or town and your message, and use them only to deal with that request. A request for a price from one of our articles comes to us, not to any builder; we reply by email and do not pass your details on without asking you first. An enquiry sent from a builder's profile goes to that one builder and a copy to us. You get a copy by email. When you write a review we store your email address to confirm the review is yours and to tell you the outcome; we never show it publicly or to the builder. We delete it 90 days after your review is published, rejected or removed; we keep it longer only while a change you sent is waiting for a moderator, or while your link to change the review still works. We delete a review you never confirmed 30 days after you wrote it. When your review is published we email you a link to change or withdraw it; it works for 30 days, or until we delete your email address if that is sooner, and you can ask for a new one from the link page while we still hold your address. A moderator checks a change before it replaces your published review. If you withdraw your review we delete it and any changes to it; we keep a record that a review was withdrawn, with its rating and dates, but not its text. The text of an earlier, refused or withdrawn change to a review is deleted 90 days after it was replaced, refused or withdrawn; its rating and dates stay. When you report a listing we keep what you wrote, and your email address if you give one, to check the report and reply; we delete both 90 days later and keep only the reason. Email is sent through Resend; we never sell or share your details for marketing. To see, correct or delete what we hold about you, email [email protected].

Messaging a firm on WhatsApp

If a firm adds a WhatsApp number, we show it on their profile because the firm asked us to. Tapping Message on WhatsApp takes you to WhatsApp, a service owned by Meta: what you send there goes from you to the firm through WhatsApp, under WhatsApp's own terms and privacy policy, and we do not see it. We keep a count of taps per firm per day for 13 months and then delete it; the count does not record who tapped. To count each connection once a day, our server keeps a scrambled form of your internet address in memory for the rest of that day; it is never written down.

Your content on your listing

When you add text, a logo or photos to your listing, you keep ownership of them. You give Property Architecture Ltd, which runs mylocalbuilders.uk, a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to show, copy, resize and crop them on mylocalbuilders.uk and in its search results, link previews and social-media previews, for as long as your listing is live and for up to 30 days after you remove them while copies clear from caches. You confirm that you own the content or have permission to use it, and that it is accurate and lawful. We may moderate what you add: we can edit it for length or format, refuse it, or remove it if it breaks these terms or the law, and if you ask we will tell you why. Ask us to remove any of your content by emailing [email protected]; we will remove it within 5 working days. A firm on a paid listing may add a WhatsApp number to its profile. We store the number, whether the firm wants the button shown and when it confirmed the number is its business number and may be shown publicly. We show it only while the firm wants it shown and the listing is a paid listing that a moderator has not hidden; the firm can remove it at any time, and then we delete the number. Until the firm removes it we keep it, also while the button is not shown (for example after the listing stops being a paid listing).

Directory data

Firms in the directory come from public sources: the Companies House register (company name and number, registered office, industry codes and status) and, for firms collected in October 2026, the TrustMark find-a-tradesperson directory. We never collect details of directors, owners or other people. We use this data on the basis of legitimate interests: to help homeowners find registered building firms, to keep each listing in step with the register, and to invite each firm to claim its listing. Before we show a firm taken from Companies House, we send it a privacy notice saying what we hold and how to claim or remove the listing (by email where we hold the company's email address, otherwise by post), and we wait at least 14 days. For a firm that has not claimed its listing we show only its town and the first part of its postcode, never the full address. We keep a listing while the company is on the register; we hide it once the register sync finds it dissolved. A firm can remove its listing at any time at mylocalbuilders.uk/remove with the code from our privacy notice, or by emailing [email protected] with its company number; we then delete its details and keep only the company number, so it is never added again. Our notice invites the firm to buy a verified listing, which is marketing: a firm can object to that at any time and we will stop. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
